My 1957 Chevrolet Belair was imported new into New Zealand in 1957 as a right-hand drive company car for an executive of the NZ Tobacco Company. By the time I got her, thirty years later, she'd had 36 owners. The supercharged Chev and the rest are currently on rebuild number three...

Racing was usually between November and March. Driving to the drags in Hastings over Xmas and New Year was an awesome experience!

IN the photo above, you can see my '72 Holden Monaro five years before I bought it.

Back then Mark Coffey had a big block Chev on nitrous in there. In front of the Monaro is Joe Tomasi's HQ Holden...totally chromed out. He even chromed the inner wheel arches...the police thought it was pretty cool when they pulled him over!

If you are wondering why there's no front bumper, theres Running On Empty and Two Lane Blacktop to blame for that. Anyway, here are some memories of the legendary trips we made to the drags.

Drove from Wellington to Hastings (400kms)...raced the car over Xmas and New Year...picked up a national record and a win in A/Street and drove home.  Maintenance in the car park of the motel was normal.
